NAVELBINE® was discovered in France by Pierre Potier, a distinguished scientist working for the CNRS (National Center of Scientific Research); it is the principal representative of the vincaalkaloid group of agents(1). Its enhanced therapeutic index is probably due to a high affinity for mitotic microtubules compared to its low affinity for axonal microtubules.

This has been shown to be translated into high clinical efficacy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and in breast cancer, and recently in hormone-refractory prostate carcinoma. NAVELBINE^® is now registered for use in more than 80 countries.

This more recent presentation of vinorelbine has demonstrated the same efficacy and the same tolerance as the injectable form, although at higher doses.
